Dave Rebbitt is President of Rarebit Consulting providing services across western Canada. He has over 30 years of experience in safety and got his start in 1987/8 with the new WHMIS legislation. He holds of both the CRSP and CHSC designations.
As part of his commitment to the profession, Dave is a member of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) Board of Governors.
Over his career, he has also become an experienced writer and speaker. He is the most published author, on safety, in Canada. He has published more peer-reviewed safety articles in international journals than any other Canadian safety professional. He also authors several online blogs published in Canada and the USA.
Dave continues to speak at various safety conferences, groups, and companies on management and safety. His articles on pyramids and Hypercompliance, a term he coined, are popular topics.
Dave is also engaged in course development and instruction at the University of Alberta OHS Diploma program. Dave instructs in classroom and online courses ranging from management systems to incident causation.
Dave holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. His study on the relationship between the number of safety professionals on the fatality rate in several countries remains unique. The research has been referenced internationally, in particular by International Network of Safety & Health Practitioner Organisations (INSHPO) in their review of safety literature and studies.
Dave is also a veteran, having served over 20 years in the Canadian Forces in various capacities. His roles ranged from soldier to technical specialist and manager. His final role was the head of safety for military training facilities in Canada
In his spare time, Dave writes science fiction novels.
